Pierre Silvin
Pierre Silvin was born in Talence near Bordeaux in 1959.
Without any formal training, and inspired to paint by his Father,
Gèrard Sendrey, a widely respected and internationally exhibited
artist, he has painted or drawn for most of his life. At the age
of 35, after having problems with his marriage, he once again plunged
into his creative activities and began to consistently produce work.
Silvin has received a great deal of attention for his haunting scenes
of people and animals.
In his art, Silvin uses lead pencil, gouache
and color pencils on paper. He experiments with layering images
or making them transparent. Working at home in a corner with his
family milling around him, he creates beings from another world
- strange shapes and creatures often surrounded by a lunar light,
or sometimes by animals, boats, or bicycles. Women with giraffe-like
necks and powerful busts cradle their babies in their arms in arabesque
embraces. In this gentle, silent universe time seems suspended.
Pierre Silvin lives in Léogeats, in the
Gironde region of France. Besides France, his works have been exhibited
in the United States, Spain, and, most recently, in Croatia and
Russia. His works are included in numerous collections including
the "Neuve Invention" section of the Collection de l'Art
Brut in Lausanne.
