José Nuñez was born in El Salvador in 1945. Since he moved to San Francisco he has been living in the city’s Mission District, with his mother and other family members nearby.

 

Nuñez has worked as a member artist at Creativity Explored Art Center for artists with mental disabilities in San Francisco since 1993. Nuñez draws and paints and uses various art media to create his well-known iconography: amorphous human figures, birds, and some greenery – images and memories from his native El Salvador. His work is well known by collectors and has been exhibited in many parts of the world.
